Review (by Malcolm Storey)

Key to Genera, and then for each genus, Key to Species followed by detailed species accounts.

This work covers several genera which have little in common beyond the pleurotoid growth form (ie with gills and stipe lateral or absent), but this is actually quite a useful selection and includes a number of little known taxa.

The Crepidotus key doesn’t use the very handy character of clamps on the pileal epicutis (see Pegler & Young 1972)

Errata, Corrigenda & Comments

Key to Agaricoid genera omits *Rimbachia* (keys to couplet 13) and *Cyphellostereum* (keys to couplet 22, but is on *Polytrichum*).

Page 75: couplet 7: *flabelliformis* should be "> 4.5µm"

Page 150: figs 148-152 are *Ramicola haustellaris* (as indicated on p100), not *R. centunculus* (I think).

Identification difficultyMostly straightforward, although Hohenbuehelia, in particular can be difficult to identify (and spell!)
