Review (by Malcolm Storey)

This was the first widely available informal guide to some of our more difficult groups of vascular plants. Although the groups selected were those found in Watsonian Vice-counties 66-70 (Durham, Northumbria and Cumbria) it is useful throughout Britain.

Consists of a large number of type-written accounts of various genera or small groups of species which are difficult to identify. The accounts are by a variety of specialists, many previously published elsewhere, but the present work brings them together.

Superseded by various editions of the "Plant Crib", but still sometimes useful for a different view, additional illustrations or groups not covered in later publications.

Errata, Corrigenda & CommentsA list of errata appears in Plant Crib 1988 (page 139).
Examine with x8 or x10 hand lens ( Stereo Microscope is also useful)
