A quarterly publication covering all aspects of Mycology. Early editions contained many articles of interest to field mycologists, but this role was later largely taken over by Field Mycology, although The Mycologist continued to publish records of new British species.

It was sent to all members of the British Mycological Society until it ceased publication in 2006. It was replaced by "Fungal Biology Reviews", a much more technical "researchy" publication.

Now online on the ScienceDirect website, though they’ve omitted to digitise a number of the more useful articles.
