Review (by Malcolm Storey)

The London Bat Project surveyed the bats in the capital in 1985-7. The survey was repeated in 1999 by the London Bat Group and the findings are presented here. A slight but statistically significant decrease (6%) in numbers seen was found and also a small statistically significant decrease in species richness. However, when the bias due to improved sensitivity of "Bat Boxes" is allowed for the actual decline is thought to be about 40%.
