Review (by Malcolm Storey)

A review of the European Fanniidae with introductory chapters on morphology (immature stages and imagines), development and biology, larval habitats (with tabulation of species), medical, hygienic and economic importance, and origin and distribution of European species.

Initial keys cover the small genera Piezura and Euryomma. For the principal genus Fannia, there are keys to males (79 couplets), females (69 couplets) and larvae (19 couplets). The differing length of keys reflects the different levels of knowledge.

Species accounts, informal subgeneric classification, tables of distribution by country, references, plates and index complete the work.
