Review (by Malcolm Storey)

Staphylinidae is one of the most speciose animal families. It contains a full 25% of our beetle fauna. The 6 subfamilies here treated fill the largest Handbook to date in the present series.

Key to subfamilies, key to genera for each family and to species for each genus. The keys are laid out in the modern user-friendly style with illustrations beside many of the couplets.

The short species accounts which follow each key include confirmatory characters.

Examine Stereo Microscope ( Compound Microscope is also useful)
Specimen PreparationGenitalia preps often required
Identification difficultyQuite a challenging group.
