Review (by Malcolm Storey)

A compilation of several papers.

The main of these is Lo Bianco, Salvatore. 1899. "The methods employed at the Naples Zoological Station for the preservation of marine animals". Translated from the original Italian by E. 0. Hovey. This is now of limited use due to over-reliance on "sublimate" - mercuric chloride, and other highly toxic chemicals, which modern workers would prefer not to handle.

Two further contributions combine information from the above paper and the classic work by Wagstaffe and Filder (1955. The preservation of natural history specimens Vol. I. Invertebrates).

The final paper assesses Propylene phenoxetol, and Sevin and rapid freezing.
