The text is in Latin, which is a problem for most of us, but the magnificent drawings of microfungi are a joy to anyone who is even remotely familiar with these organisms.

The book was so important that it was translated into English by W. B. Grove and republished in 1931. These translations demand hundreds of pounds when they come up secondhand, but the originals are freely downloadable from BHL (if rather large files!).

The Tulasne brothers recognised the dual nature (anamorph and teliomorph) of microfungi and to question the convention of treating them as separate species. This was a paradigm shift in mycology. They were far ahead of their time and it took 150 years (Melbourne, 2011) for the full implications to be accepted.
