| Review (by Malcolm Storey) | Newly-described R. recondita is widespread in Europe (recondita means "hidden"). It is distinguished among the species with warm brown caps by taste and smell as the spore characters overlap with R. praetervisa. R. recondita tastes completely mild, and its smell combines fruity (Pelargonium) and rubbery (like R. foetens). It is ectomycorrhizal with a range of deciduous and coniferous trees, as well as Helianthemum. |
