Review (by Malcolm Storey) | Dichotomous key to these small parasitic hymenoptera. As far as the biology is known they are all parasitic on other insects, either primarily (on Neuroptera, Psylloidea, Diptera [inc Syrphidae], Siricidae) or secondarily (on aphids via Aphidiinae [Hymenoptera: Braconidae] or Aphelinae [Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea]). Rearing records will be of particular interest, and knowledge of the host helps with identification. |
Examine | Stereo Microscope |
Specimen Preparation | Collect into 90% alcohol, stored in the cool and dark. Side-mount on card points etc. Apart from large Ibalia, pinning, even micropinning destroys too much information. Knowledge of the host is useful. |
