Review (by Malcolm Storey) | High quality photographs of the left-facing lateral view of a male of each species (generally in alcohol so pruinosity is lost), with scanned illustrations from the published literature. You can zoom into the photographs and pan to see more detail on specific parts. This can be a bit slow, so give it time to reload the image. There is also a comparison feature which works nicely because the subjects are generally in the same orientation. Where types are available these have been used. Unfortunately these are not in the regular orientation - usually not even whole specimens. While I appreciate the value of illustrating the type it doesn’t fit well with the comparison facility. Species coverage is about 30% (April 2013) but this will become a very useful site. |
