A medium-sized yellow waxcap with a greasy cap, adnexed gills and a dry stem which becomes moist when handled. Microscopically it is characterised by broad ellipsoid spores and long cells in the gills trama. The toadstool is common and widespread occurring in troops, sometimes clustered, in grassland, unfertilised lawns and in fixed dunes. The yellow waxcaps have been much confused in the past and old records should be treated with caution.
