To see the embedded teliospores, peel off the lower epidermis from dead brown areas on over-wintered leaves (it comes off quite easily) and mount with the inner side upper most. Unde x40 objective, the brown teliospores are visible inside the epithelial cells, although may be far less abundant than illustrated by W&H.
